About the event
Self-Care is Our Birthright to be Right - Parts 1 & 2 happening February 21, 2021
Part 1: Centering Self and Creating a Self-Care List
Is the Rona, anti-blackness and isolation getting you down and tired? Let’s come together and engage in self-care exploration with each other. This workshop will include discussing what self-care means to you as a Black, queer/trans person, creating a self-care list and discussing ways to keep it movin’ to incorporate these ideas/activities into your weekly life. Workshop Part 2 will build on these identified wellness ideas and activities.
Part 2: What’s in Your Box, a Tool for Wellness
Let’s come back together and create a vessel for wellness reminders. Together we will decorate boxes to remind you of Black Joy and Respite. We will take the self-care items from your list (Workshop Part 1) and discuss ways to incorporate them into activities and weekly reminders that you can draw upon when in need. What you will leave with is a wellness box that is a visual reminder to engage in self-care that also warehouses affirmations, reminders and tools for wellness. Bring anything to the workshops that brings you joy or restoration and can be placed in your box or an associated symbol or picture.
Note: Folks who RSVP byFeb 14, 2021 will receive a stipend of $15 to source box and materials. Folks who RSVP after that date are advised to bring the following to the workshop: a box (plain one, cereal box, shoebox, etc.); coloring materials; paper; glue, stickers; items of cultural relevance; symbols that make you feel happy or restored).
